The size of a hardside waterbed is determined by measuring the inside of the wood frame that surrounds the vinyl water bladder. Hardside waterbed sizes are unique, and do not correspond to the sizes of conventional mattresses.

Waterbeds come in two varieties and each has its own sizing. A hardside waterbed has wood sides that form a frame, which serves to contain the vinyl safety liner and the water filled mattress bladder.

Hardside Waterbed Sizes

When measuring the size of a hardside waterbed mattress, you measure the inside of the waterbed frame. Because the length of a King, Queen and Twin hardside waterbed is greater than that of standard mattresses, hardside waterbeds are sometimes distinguished as California King, California Queen and Super Single.

  • King Waterbed: 72" x 84"
  • Queen Waterbed: 60" x 84"
  • Super Single Waterbed: 48" x 84"

Softside Waterbed Sizes

A softside waterbed mattress looks just like a traditional innerspring mattress, and comes in the same sizes. When you purchase a softside waterbed you can enjoy all the warmth and comfort of a hardside waterbed, without the hardside rails! You can replace your conventional mattress with one of our featured softside waterbeds and keep your current headboard, foot board and conventional bed linens while still enjoying the warmth and pressure free comfort of a softside waterbed.

  • Twin Softside: 39" x 75"
  • Double Softside: 54" x 75"
  • Queen Softside: 60" x 80"
  • King Softside: 76" x 80"
  • Cal King Softside: 72" x 84"

Because a softside waterbed mattress weighs more than a typical innerspring, you will need a heavy duty universal waterbed foundation with a heavy duty 9 leg bed frame or a platform frame to support the weight of your softside waterbed mattress.
